About Bakersfield SPCA

The Bakersfield SPCA is Kern County’s original animal welfare agency and only no-kill shelter. Our vision is that one day no healthy companion animal will be euthanized for lack of a home, lack of space or lack of compassion.

Bakersfield SPCA is an other place in Bakersfield, California. It is listed at 3000 Gibson St, Bakersfield, CA 93308, which places it among the local businesses of Bakersfield that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under animal shelter, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In Bakersfield, the cafes inside museums, botanical gardens and visitor centers are a good option on a day out, and city parks often host a coffee cart or a seasonal concession stand. Across California, state and national parks list their concession hours online and close early outside the summer season. Check the listing for hours, admission requirements and the Google rating, and use the main cafe and bakery categories for everyday coffee, since the places here are grouped by location rather than by what they serve.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 9:30 am–4:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Bakersfield SPCA at (661) 323-8353; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Bakersfield is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Bakersfield follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Amazing experience! The staff is so kind, and you can tell they truly love what they do and care deeply for the animals. The shelter was very clean, and all the animals looked happy and well cared for. A special shoutout to Daniel for going above and beyond to help us find our forever pet. Thank you for making the adoption process so wonderful!

If you're looking for your next pet please check here first. It’s where I found mine and I couldnt be happier. The staff are so friendly and they take great care of the animals. Honestly the price is a steal because it includes spay/neuter, flea/worm treatment and shots, which would have cost me a lot more at the veterinary clinic. It's thanks to the love and care these animals get that they're so well adjusted and ready for a family. From now on any future pet will come from here. Oh and they sale animal blankets and stuff all at low prices! THANK YOU SPCA! YOU GUYS ROCK!

I adopted a cat from Bakersfield SPCA and overall the staff were polite. However, I was told at the time that I could exchange the cat if it wasn’t a good fit, and there was no clear explanation about a 10-day limit or a $100 fee. When I came back after 15 days, I was told I had to pay the fee, which was frustrating because I would have made my decision earlier if this had been clearly explained. I respect their policies and their mission to help animals, but I hope they can improve communication so adopters fully understand all conditions upfront. Transparency makes a big difference in the adoption experience.

I had been keeping an eye on a dog at the Bakersfield SPCA for months, and I couldn’t believe my luck when she was still there waiting for us when the time was finally right. Booking a meet and greet was incredibly simple, and the team worked quickly to get us scheduled. While our dogs didn’t immediately hit it off, I could tell there was potential, and the staff made us feel confident in the process. We ended up adopting her, and it truly has been the best decision we’ve ever made. She’s brought so much joy to our lives! I’m incredibly grateful to the SPCA staff for their patience and support throughout the entire process. They made sure we found the perfect match, and we couldn’t be happier with our new family member. Thank you so much for helping us bring this sweet girl into our home! She’s been with us since September 2023. 🫢

We had a wonderful experience last weekend when we rescued from the Bakersfield, SPCA. They do a thorough check to ensure their pets go to good homes. We brought our dog to a meet and greet with the puppy we were interested in adopting, and it went smoothly. We had no issues and everyone there was so kind. I'm confused by some of the reviews because we had a great experience! We are so lucky and thankful we were able to rescue Northern after losing our cavalier King Charles last year. We are so excited for our new adventure as a family of four again.
